‘Lancaster’s Farm’ was painted at almost the same time as ‘Chates Farm’ and could be seen as a twin piece or as one in its own right. It represents a range of experiments with simple delicate structures – thin grasses bending against a slowly-darkening sky reflecting the field’s colours; a late-afternoon warning of rain.
