The Commissioning process

The advantage of having work made specifically for you is that it can contain all of the elements – the colours, the textures, the feel – that you have already seen in other work either on the site or at a show. It can also be the size and format that you want. That can be important if you have identified a space where you would like the work to be positioned. There is also no additional cost to commissioning work. The prices are worked out in the same way as for non-commissioned work.

We would start with a conversation about what you wanted, what you like about the work you have already seen. That would enable me to create what is known in the world of design as a mood board – examples of colours and textures.

We would discuss the price – the figures in the shop will give you a general guide – and agree a non-returnable deposit, usually 20%. The price will include framing. However, we would also discuss whether or not you wanted the work framed as some people like to choose their own frame. Lastly, I would give you a date by when the work would be completed.

It is obviously important to me that, on completion, you like the work. So if, for any reason, you did not like it, there would be no obligation at all to buy it.
